I was born and raised in Los Angeles and no matter where I go in the world anytime I’ve met someone that says or thinks the following, 99.9% of the time I found out they were from LA. Whether you’re a tourist, transplant or native here are some easy ways to spot that someone is from Los Angeles.
- Juicing is actually healthy not pretentious.
- Having one or even three side hustles is acceptable.
- No one likes rainy days so expect canceled plans.
- Speaking of rain after the first spell people suddenly don’t know how to drive.
- We love food trucks.
- You’ve met more transplants than natives.
- Meeting someone born and raised in Los Angeles is quite rare.
- After a night out you know where the best taco stands are.
- In-n-out is nice but in reality there are wayyy better burgers in Los Angeles.
- That being said, I’ll take animal style fries with a milkshake please.
- Flip flops can be worn 365 days out of the year.
- You have experienced & lived through an earthquake but for some reason a 3.0 doesn’t phase you.
- Horrendous is an understatement when describing traffic here. A two mile drive can take you an hour!
- A good portion of your childhood was spent getting ice cream from Rite Aid.
- Anything under 65 degrees is cold weather.
- There’s an increase in scarves, beanies and dare I say Ugg Boots when the temperature drops.
- You have a special spot that ‘no one’ knows about in Malibu.
- We don’t go crazy over celebrity sightings because they happen all the time.
- Almost everyday is a beach day. This also means during the months of December, January and February.
- Randy’s Donuts is a cultural landmark.
- You personally know an actor or at least someone aspiring to be one.
- Name dropping is aggravating but you hear it everywhere in Los Angeles.
- You acknowledge the fact that being a vlogger, Instagrammer or influencer can be a fulltime job.
- Yoga pants & gym clothes are appropriate attire for just about any errand or event.
- Obviously you know a better shortcut, sidestreet or freeway entrance exit.
- The DMV is a whole day affair & without an appointment you’re screwed!
- Iced Coffee is life and so is cold brew but this depends on who’s asking.
- You know all the locations filmed when watching movies.
- We are so lucky for our food scene and the array of international cuisine.
- The Trader Joe’s parking lot on a Sunday afternoon can be just as stressful as the 405 at 3pm.
- USC and UCLA are Eternal rivals. Fight on!
- We have over 175 scenic hiking trails that will literally take your breath away.
- People are dressed to hike at Runyon Canyon but spend the majority of the time taking Insta photos.
- We brag about our short distance to mountains, beaches and deserts.
- For the long weekend away you’re either heading out to Palm Springs, San Diego, Vegas or Joshua Tree.
- The La Brea Tar Pits and Getty Museum were regular school field trip destinations.
- You’ve waited over an hour in line for Pink’s Hot Dogs, Tito’s Tacos or The Boiling Crab.
- There’s a pregame before the event and a pregame before the actual pregame for the event.
- You brunch with the girls on Sunday and preferably where they have bottomless mimosas.
- You went to school with someone who is now famous.
- The Lakers, Kings or Dodgers – you’ve seen at least 1 game in person.
- When someone is talking about their cleanse chances are you’ve tried that particular one too.
- You wouldn’t be caught dead at The Santa Monica Promenade or Hollywood Walk of Fame unless it’s to show around friends and family from out of town.
- Parking in LA is dumb, stressful and annoying.
- You’ve never had a white Christmas but you can head to the Grove or Big Bear to see snow.

Hahahah I love this! I’m from TX originally but I have a lot of Cali friends, some from LA and I know many of these apply directly to them.
These are actually good I really hope it could be applied in India as well!
A few of these can be applied for Arizona too. Great post, thanks for sharing this.
44. You’re tired of telling Europeans that the entire Los Angeles doesn’t look like Beverly Hills hotel and you’re screwed without a car 😛
I am not from LA, but my best friend lives there and I have visited a few times!! This list is great, and I agree with so many on it.
