We have just moved our family to Maastricht from Charleston, SC. I also struggled a little with meeting people, although I found expats easier than the Dutch to get to know. I ended up writing little notes to my closest neighbors to introduce myself and give them my phone number in case they wanted to meet up or needed anything. That definitely helped break some ice. We visited Utrecht many years ago – enjoy! And good luck with the job and all else. If you make it to Maastricht, let me know and I’ll recommend some great photo spots 🙂
