It can be a challenge to plan dates during the cold season. The days are shorter, the temperature chilly and most people prefer to stay indoors rather than venture outside. So what exactly can you do on a date in winter? If you’re lacking inspiration I’ve got you covered with 12 cute winter date ideas. These fun and romantic activities will make you realize that the wintertime has its own magical charm.

1. Have a fondue party

cute winter date ideas

Who doesn’t love melted cheese and shared bites? This Swiss national dish is the perfect combination for a fun and romantic date. Grab your favorite cheese and main dishes such as vegetables, seafood, or meats. Fondue also doesn’t have to be cheese! Try a delicious chocolate or Nutella dipping sauce instead or follow up as dessert. Arrange a plate of sliced bananas, strawberries, pineapple, cake pieces, cookies, pretzels and you’re good to go.

2. Museum Date

This is the ideal setting to get to know one another over a variety of topics (especially if you’ve got the first date jitters). You can discuss the exhibits, art pieces, and each other’s artistic preferences. You can always follow up with dinner afterward.

3. Cook a homemade meal

For a romantic winter date, invite them over for a nice dinner. Curate a nice playlist, set the scene with candles, and grab a bottle of quality wine to pair with your meal. If you’d like to make the dinner more interactive, choose a fun recipe and prepare it together. Cooking a meal is not only more personal but less expensive than heading to a restaurant.

4. Visit the Planetarium

Looking for one of the more alternative but still cute winter date ideas? How about the planetarium? Marvel at the stars, planets and identify constellations while staying indoors. Who knew exploring the universe could be so romantic.

5. Organize a game night

Do you both like playing games and prefer more of a low-key date? Gather any multiplayer board, card, or video games that allow for a strategic and collaborative experience that you both can bond over. Enjoy each other’s company over a nice game of scrabble or Mario Party. This sort of date is ideal for singles who have already passed the first date stage.

6. Get creative and paint

You don’t need to be an artist for this winter date idea. Grab a poster and whatever you have on hand: acrylic paints, pastels, markers, and start getting creative. Alternatively, have you heard of sip and paint? This is a painting class led by an instructor where you can also enjoy drinks at the same time. This is a fun activity that you and your date can easily enjoy.

7. Enjoy a Cozy Drink

Mulled wine

Make a warm drink and curl up by the fireplace. Mulled wine is the perfect drink for the occasion. It’s spicy, sweet, and instantly lifts up your spirits (from all the red wine and cognac).

Where can I go on a date when it’s cold outside?

Don’t go as far to think that the cold weather will hinder you from having a nice date outside. If you prefer a more active Rendez-Vous, check out these outdoor winter date ideas.

8. Ice skating

Head to an outdoor rink, rent a pair of skates, and try not to fall over. Whether you’re an expert or beginner skating is one of the best choices for cute winter date ideas because it allows you to get close. You can hold each other’s hands to prevent from slipping on the ice. When you’re done gliding on the rink warm up with a steaming cup of cocoa or hot cider. If the weather is unpleasant then opt for an indoor rink.

9. Have a bonfire

Get warm and toasty outside by having a bonfire. Bring along some marshmallows, graham crackers, chocolate, and roast some s’mores over the campfire. Share a blanket and cozy up to the sound of the firewood crackling.

10. Explore a Christmas market

The most romantic atmosphere for a date is at a Christmas market. The sparkling lights and the smell of chestnuts wafting in the air are like magic. I like to walk hand in hand and get lost amongst the mazes of cute stalls, regional specialties, and amusement rides.

What about cheap winter date ideas?

Who says that a date needs to be expensive? If you’re trying to watch your budget these date ideas won’t break the bank or cost next to nothing.

11. Build a snowman

For a fun and inexpensive activity, bundle up and take your date out to build a snowman together. Don’t forget to stop for a cup of hot chocolate to warm yourself up.

12. Go on a snowy walk

After it’s snowed find a nice park or forest to stroll through and enjoy the snowy landscape together. Bring a thermos of hot coffee or tea to share while you walk around.

13. Build a puzzle

Grab that 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle that you never ended up tackling, a few yummy snacks, and voila. You’ve got yourself a fun date idea that costs next to nothing.
